asic running shoe March 14, 2010 Katherine Mcdonald (New Paltz, NY United States) I read the previous reviews, they were mixed, people loved them or hated them. I love asics, I have 4 pr. I ordered the kayano 15 in wide, and altered the laces for comfort as I usually do and wore them a few hours a day for a week to get used to them. I went for an hour walk on the treadmill and got blisters WALKING in them. Now I use them for weight lifting class. I think the design of the metalic strip interferes with the toe box.
Six Generations Later And Still Buying March 1, 2010 gail powers (Harbor County, MI and N. Naples, FL) I have been buying ASICS for at least 15 years and never had any major complaints. However, when I am not in ASICS, I wear Birkenstocks. Guess it's obvious that comfort is high on my list. Many years ago I was at Road Runner Sports in San Diego and figured I'd get fitted for a running shoe because I over-pronate and wanted to make sure I got the best running shoe out there. I tried on a lot of pairs of shoes-----Saucony, Nike, New Balance and ASICS. The Gel Kayano IX seemed to work the best and since then I have worn every subsequent generation. My feet are long and narrow. My toes are almost freakishly long. The Kayano gives me plenty of room in the toe box and cradles my feet perfectly. The arch support is just right so I don't need custom orthotics and go with the foot pad that comes with the shoe. I size up 1/2 size because these shoes run a tad small. I had a bad car accident 12 years ago and the cartilege in my knees was completely destroyed so I do not run. I speed walk on a level track at my health club and I use my Kayanos when working out and running errands. Normally these shoes last for 5-6 months and I replace them when I notice the soles wearing unevenly. While the shoes are pricey, I think they are a necessary expenditure.
Much as I love these shoes, I'd suggest anyone interested in this style to go in to a store that has them in stock at the end of the day (when feet tend to be tired and swollen). Walk in them, wiggle your toes, make sure they don't pinch or constrict. What works for me may not work for you.
AWESOME!! MY FAVORITE SHOE February 22, 2010 N. Pruis (BRENTWOOD, CA, US) Not only is this my favorite shoe... but I got a killer deal. I was happy with the free shipping deal & the huge discount that I couldn't find anywhere else for that price. Plus the delivery was timely & I recieved my shoes in great condition!!
I would use this company for my next purchase~
I love aiscs, and these are my favorite ever! February 19, 2010 B. Stanley I'm a big fan of asics, and loved the offset lacing when I first experienced it on my Gel Nimbus 10 shoes. For years I've been a very consistent size 9.5, average width running shoe and this was my size in the Gel Nimbus.
We're lucky to have a very attentive local running store who really takes the time to make sure you get the right shoes for your feet. In this particular shoe, I found a 10 narrow was a much better fit than my normal size. It was the opinion of my local running store that these shoes are cut slightly wider than other shoes and I agree.
Of course the fit may vary depending on your size and preferences.
I really love the offset lacing, it provides a superior fit and arch support. In the past I felt like I could never lace my shoes right, and now I worry about that much less. I will probably never go back to "standard lacing."
This is a great running shoe. It provides excellent cushion, stability, and support. As someone who had back surgery at 19, I'm very prone to injury but this is the best shoe I've owned so far.
It does seem to wear out at about the same rate as the other asics I've owned. I replace my running shoes about every 6 months--I can always tell when it's time to get new shoes because I start "feeling old." Pain in my feet, increased hamstring concerns, etc. In this price range I haven't found any shoes seem to have much difference as far as longevity goes.
Love the shoes February 6, 2010 C. Kessler Absolutely loved the shoes, however I did find them to run a little small. I actually bought a half size larger which was perfect.
